Men cosmetics are becoming more and more attractive to many consumers. If cosmetics were not on trend for men a few years ago and mainly associated to women, it’s very interesting to study a bit more how do men perceive cosmetics now.
We decided to interview different men profiles with different backgrounds and ages.
Have you ever bought cosmetics for yourself ?
- Yes, body creams.
What do you think about cosmetics in general ?
- I have no opinion on it
What kind of products do you think men cosmetics are offering ?
- Anti-wrinkle products, products for the beard
Do you think cosmetics are more for men or for women?
- More for women. Women do a lot of make up and spend more time in the bathroom
Also, in supermarket the cosmetic area is for women only.
What do you think about men taking care of their skin, bear and hair ?
- I think it is good when it’s not too much.
What would stop you from buying men cosmetics ? (more time in the bathroom, no interest, not enough information..)
- I don’t want to spend hours in the bathroom. I don’t need many products.
Do you know any men cosmetics brand ?
- Nivea Men, Garnier Men and I think all luxury brands like Dior, Hugo boss, Hermes also sells cosmetics for men.

Have you ever bought cosmetics for yourself ?
- Not really, only mask peelings and face creams.
What do you think about cosmetics in general ?
- I think it’s good. If people feel happier and prettier with cosmetics why not.
What kind of products do you think men cosmetics are offering ?
- Face cream, mask, beard serums..
Do you think cosmetics are more for men or for women?
- I think for both, even though women have way more choices regarding brands and products than men.
What do you think about men taking care of their skin, bear and hair ?
- I think it’s good. I don’t see why only women should take care of themselves.
What would stop you from buying men cosmetics ? (more time in the bathroom, no interest, not enough information..)
- I don’t want to have thousands of products like my sister in the bathroom. I don’t feel the need yet.

- I don’t think it is very important, I have other interest.

- Creams, perfumes
Do you think cosmetics are more for men or for women?
- More for women! Men don’t apply so many creams or even make up like women.
What do you think about men taking care of their skin, bear and hair ?
- Why not ! When it is not exaggerated.

- I think I’m maybe not informed enough and I don’t want to spend hours in the bathroom.

The results of this survey were interesting. Even though the backgrounds and ages of the interviewed men are different, they seem to share the same opinions on different points. They all think that the offer for men in cosmetics is very small in comparison to what the women cosmetic market offers. Some of them still think that cosmetics are more for women than men, which can be maybe deducted from this lack of offers. They all don’t want to spend more time in the bathroom to take care of themselves and all think that they don’t need a lot products.
Even though the younger interviewed men seems to be more interested to men cosmetics, men cosmetics brands still have a lot of work to do to catch all men’s attention !
